Our Providers

Mary Ellen Zondorak-Perez, M.D., F.A.A.P.

In 1991, with my two sons, ages 2 years old and 2 months, I got on a plane from New York and followed my first husband to South Florida. I never looked back!  Originally, I joined a local pediatric practice, but then helped to start Personal Care Pediatrics. This practice has been my love since its birth in May of 1995.  Like the patients I care for, I have watched it grow through the years into maturity. And that is why being a pediatrician is so amazing to me. I am blessed to care for and watch my patients grow from infants to young adults. To take care of my patients’ children is truly a great experience and one I am fortunate to be able to do.

I’ve always been interested in childhood and maternal health. Our species depends on it! During my obstetrics clerkship in medical school, I was convinced that Obstetrics was my calling, but once the baby was delivered, I’d run to the warmer to care for the new baby. The mother had done her job, and all I did was marvel at the newborn life I had helped care for in utero for nine months. Then I knew I wanted to care for the infant and keep it healthy until it could care for itself. Which is what I do now as a pediatrician.  I am very pro-breastfeeding and working closely with mothers at this very critical time, is the perfect opportunity to get the best of both worlds.

As children and teens grow, they experience both physical and emotional ‘growing pains.’ Through the years this aspect of my patients’ welfare has become increasingly important to me.  I feel that it is important for patients to have a consistent medical home as they enter adolescence and grow into individual adults. My goal is to provide this place in our practice.

South Florida has been a wonderful place to raise my three sons who were all very active in sports and the outdoors. For years they kept me very busy. Now, they are on their own, except when dog and babysitting are required! I have since remarried, and my new husband and I enjoy cooking, antiquing and gardening. The other residents of our home are my golden retriever, and my mom, who both love puzzles and graham crackers!
